A family living at one Canadian address may need different documents for the same December Umrah trip. Check every traveller separately. A child's Canadian passport does not automatically give a parent the same Saudi visa route, and a Canadian study or work permit is not a substitute for a passport.
The Saudi tourist eVisa portal lists Canada among eligible countries and allows Umrah under the tourist visa, excluding Hajj. That does not establish eligibility for everyone who lives in Canada. Other passports and travel documents require their own assessment through official channels.
Build a document list for each person
Use a separate row for every adult and child. Record passport nationality and type, expiry date, Canadian immigration status, proposed Saudi visa route and any transit country. Do not put passport numbers in a shared public spreadsheet.
Traveller Saudi entry check Canadian return check
Canadian passport holder Confirm current eligibility and passport conditions Travel with the appropriate Canadian travel document
Canadian permanent resident with another passport Check that passport and any applicable eligibility route Check valid PR card or applicable travel document
Work or study permit holder Verify the person's individual Saudi requirements Check passport and required visa or eTA
Child with a different nationality from parents Assess the child separately Check the child's own return documents
IRCC explains that work and study permits do not themselves authorise travel back to Canada. Permanent residents returning by commercial transport generally need a valid PR card or permanent resident travel document alongside their passport or travel document. Consult the linked official guidance for your situation, especially if an application is pending.
Compare booking before and after eligibility checks
Buying a non-refundable ticket before checking eligibility fixes your dates but exposes you to a loss if documents cannot be arranged. Checking eligibility first leaves more room to choose a route that the whole family can use.
An eligibility check is not a visa approval. Some applications require travel information, so ask what can be reserved provisionally and what must be purchased. Obtain the supplier's cancellation terms before paying. The refundable booking comparison explains how to measure the amount at risk.
Imagine two parents with non-Canadian passports and a Canadian-born child travelling through Cairo. There are three Saudi applications to assess and a separate question about Egyptian entry if the family leaves the airport. The parents also need to confirm their ability to return to Canada. Solving the child's application does not solve the whole journey.
Keep the route simple enough to document
A longer itinerary can introduce additional entry or transit checks. Compare the complete route before choosing a low fare. If grandparents will arrive from another country, use our separate family arrival guide to coordinate documents and meeting arrangements.
Avoid relying on a social media reply that says approval took five minutes. That is one person's experience, not a processing promise. Use the issuing authority's current requirements, and ask an appropriately qualified adviser about complex Canadian immigration circumstances.
Questions families ask
Can everyone apply together? A platform may support linked applications, but eligibility and approval still need to be established for each traveller.
Does a package price include every visa? Read the named visa inclusion and any eligibility conditions. Ask about additional charges for a different route and about transit or stopover entry.
What if one person's document is delayed? Ask whether the other family members can change or cancel and what penalties apply. Do this before making the first payment.
