Meeting family from another country during December Umrah

Meeting family from another country during December Umrah

Relatives travelling from different countries can plan to meet during an Umrah journey, provided each person's documents and bookings allow it. The practical challenge is coordinating arrivals, accommodation and support. Being in the same city does not automatically mean being on the same group booking.

For families living in Canada, this can avoid an unnecessary journey for parents who would otherwise fly to Canada first. However, separate departures create responsibilities that need a named person, especially when older relatives require assistance.

Compare three ways to meet

Arrangement Potential advantage Main responsibility

Travel together from Canada Shared airport and flight support Everyone needs the documents and ability to reach Canada

Arrive separately in the same Saudi city Avoids routing everyone through Canada Separate pickups and a clear meeting plan

Meet at a connecting airport Can share the onward journey Ticket, transit and missed-connection arrangements

A connecting airport can look convenient on a map but be complicated in practice. Travellers may arrive in different terminals or be unable to meet without passing an entry checkpoint. Ask the airlines about the exact arrangement rather than planning a meeting from flight times alone.

Confirm whether the group can accept extra relatives

Ask the organiser whether a land-only arrangement is available. Land-only generally means selected services at the destination without the international flight, but its contents must be specified. Do not assume that relatives can join a coach, room allocation or guided activity because their family booked from Toronto.

Obtain separate written details for airport pickup, hotel nights, room occupancy, meals, city transfers and group activities. If relatives arrive a day early, identify who books that hotel night and whether they can keep the same room. Our quote checklist helps separate these charges.

Choose a meeting place that survives a delay

The hotel reception is often easier to define than a busy arrivals area, but only if both parties have confirmed transport and someone can check in. Agree on the hotel name, street address, booking name and contact number. Share the information offline as well as by messaging app.

For illustration, one family reaches Madinah in the evening while grandparents arrive the next morning. Separate pickups and a confirmed room arrangement can be simpler than asking the grandparents to wait overnight at an airport. If the grandparents need continuous help, arrange a companion or an agreed assistance service. A driver is not automatically a caregiver.

Keep documents and payments separate enough to understand

Every traveller needs an individual entry assessment. Canadian residency in one branch of the family does not establish Saudi eligibility for relatives living elsewhere. Use the different-passport guide to organise the checks.

Ask who receives refunds if one booking changes. A delay in one family's flight may not entitle everyone else to cancel. Keep copies of each reservation, payment receipt and supplier contact with the person responsible for that booking.

Questions to settle before payment

Can relatives share our room? Only if the hotel and organiser approve the occupancy, bedding and charges. A spare bed is not permission to add a guest.

Can parents join only part of the tour? That depends on the organiser's offer. Ask for the exact joining and leaving points and any revised price.

What if one arrival is delayed? Agree on the alternative pickup, late check-in process and who pays extra costs before travel.
